Three Chattanooga Musicians Contributed Music
for the 2016 PassageWays Holiday StageGenie
As part of the 2016 PassageWays Competition conducted by Chattanooga's River City Company and AIA Tennessee, The Mozilla Foundation helped fund Art120's, GeekLabs,' and Studio Mindstride's collaboration on the programmable StageGenie SoundScape at 715 Market Street in Downtown Chattanooga.
Famous Local Musicians Christie Burns, Staci Spring, Landis Zehrung, and Kevin Ford made beautiful and creative use of StageGenie's programmability for the 2016 Holiday Season.
The 2016 PassageWays Holiday SoundScape cycles through each musician's contribution.
Christie's and Landis' collaboration consists of 9 individual 30 second pieces that combine into sound tapestries ranging from very simple to very rich and complex. Random combinations of these musical threads are played for 5 minutes each cycle.
Staci's piece is a duet of Silent Night with...Staci! She recorded both parts using Audacity, a freeware software audio editor that Studio MindStride also uses to teach musical concepts as part of the Classy Genies project.
Among many other accomplishments,
Staci is a freelance musician, private instructor,
arts administrator, and college professor.
She's a bassoonist at Chattanooga Symphony & Opera
and manages CSOs Youth Orchestras.
Professor Kevin Ford is the Choral Director at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He conducted the UTC Chamber Singers in "Go Tell It On the Mountain", which rounds out the SoundScape. It was composed by Roland Carter, an an internationally known Chattanooga composer, whose recordings of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" are used across the United States for Black History Month celebrations. The soloist is Alex Bryant who now works for Unum in Chattanooga.
And many thanks to Mike at GeekLabs for designing and maintaining the sound system!
